The Marketing Ball Park

Advertising is important to the growth of your business.

Measuring Marketing

Marketing should be measured and reported using clear business language.  That means accounting.

To show you what I mean, let's get some terms out.

The International Accounting Standards Board is responsible for the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). It defines an Asset as a resource controlled by an entity as a result of past events and from which future economic benefits are expected to flow from the entity.

It goes on to define Intangible Assets are non-monetary assets which are without physical substance and identifiable (either being separable or arising from contractual or other legal rights). Intangible assets meeting the relevant recognition criteria are initially measured at cost, subsequently measured at cost or using the revaluation model, and amortised on a systematic basis over their useful lives.

Some common examples of intangible assets include customer lists, patents, creative works, and software.

Here, we define an Internet Audience as an identified Intangible Asset meeting the IFRS criteria.

The size and health of an organization's Internet Audience is a key indicator of future revenues.

New Paragraph

Internet Audience

An audience is defined as the assembled spectators or listeners at a public event, such as a play, movie, or meeting.  Public websites draw people to come visit, learn and engage.  Websites draw audiences to them - like a band playing in the park.

Your website has an Internet Audience.  There is a group of people who have considered your product, service or brand as a result of visiting your website.  Something that is unique (and very cool) about the Internet is - that audience can be reached again via the same media which brought them to you.

Now the key question: "Is an Internet Audience an Intangible Asset?" The answer is YES.

An Internet Audience is resource that is controlled by the website owner as a result of each visitor event.

Funding Advertising With An Operating Line

Lines of Credit are generally used to fund short term operational activities such as cost of goods sold, seasonal inventory and marketing campaigns.
